Mirandela is a city and a municipality in northeastern Portugal. Located in a region known as
‘Terra Quente’ due to its hot dry summers, Mirandela is filled with historical heritage and rich traditions, beautiful natural surroundings, unique gastronomy, and the vibrancy of academic campuses.
The new logo is formed by the typography and geometric shapes of the arches (locally called ‘the eyes’) of the old bridge over the Tua River, symbols of cohesion and renewal. The arches represent the resilience of Mirandela, as its current shapes and number are the result of a long process of adaptation and reconstruction, due to both natural and historical events. They represent a meeting of the natural and the built environment, the rural and the urban, of locals and visitors, circumstances and attitudes, adversity and resistance. The bridge's ‘eyes’ also mirror the hills and valleys of the territory, its peculiar topography, and the oval shape of an olive.
The city identity aims to communicate, in an innovative way, a place which is being renewed, anchored in its history, folklore and festivities. Chromatically, the greens of the new brand use the reference of the natural and agricultural heritage of the region (olives and olive oil, the parks and nature reserves, the garden city), and the warm orange and brown relate to the temperature and character of the ‘Terra Quente’.
