Porto. - 10 Anos de Cidade is a book published to celebrate the 10 years of the city brand ‘Porto.’, revising and updating the concept book that was published in 2014, when the brand was launched, explaining its context and creative process.
Between 2014 and 2024, ‘Porto.’ criss-crossed the city in public transport and service vehicles, it was applied on porticoes of events, sidings of public works and urban furniture. It was dressed, projected, extruded in large public installations and tattooed. The system was flexible and capable of evolving, proving to be ductile and organic. Its rules stimulated its growth, just like its subversive and challenging use. The design was adapted for three specific contexts: the visual identities for Porto Municipal Theatre and for the Bolhão Market, and the campaigns for prevention against Covid 19. In each case, and in complementary ways, the brand took on derivations, expanding and building the communication of the city.
Many of the book’s features relate to the design, from the bold blue colour to the embossed grid on the cover, a reference to the tiled surfaces which define the system’s grid. The book itself gives prominence to the pictures, documents of everyday urban life that form a testament of a decade of the brand’s growth and transformation.
