Arte e Comunidade

Arte e Comunidade" is a book coordinated by Hugo Cruz and published by the Gulbenkian Foundation (2015) focusing on participatory and inclusive artistic experiences (in theater, music and dance) that foster social transformation. It aims to mirror international community artistic practices and fill a gap in the compilation and comparison of diverse experiences by recording, organising and making them accessible to the general public.

For such a rich and plural project we chose to extend the conceptual, open and collaborative nature of the theme to the design strategy. A group of our then collaborators - Ana Simões, Carla Almeida, Dário Cannatà, Joana Pestana, João Lima, Jorge Amador, Mariana Lafuente, Óscar Maia and Raquel Rei - were asked to analyse different texts, interpret their narratives and design a part of the book. The collective procedures of the editorial project reflect those of the artistic expressions on debate. From this multiple approach different typographic scenarios and compositions emerge against a common, unifying backdrop: the single colour that integrates the parts into the whole.
