Mirandela
City Identity

Mirandela is a city and a municipality in northeastern Portugal. Located in a region know as "Terra Quente" due to the hot dry summers, it is filled with historical heritage and rich traditions, beautiful natural surroundings, unique gastronomy and the vibrancy of academic campuses.
The new logo consistes of the set formed by the typography and geometric shapes of the arches (locally called "eyes") of the old bridge over the Tua River, symbols of cohesion and renewal. The arches of the old bridge represent the resilience of Mirandela, as its current shapes and number are the result of a long process of metamorphosis and reconstrction, due to both natural and historical events. The stand for adaptation and cohesion between the natural and the built, the rural and the urban, between native citizens and visitors, circumstances and attitudes, adversity and resistance.

The bridge's eyes also mirror the hills and valleys of the territory, its peculiar topography, the olive's oval, the medieval arches still visible in the urban fabric, the vibrancy of the festivities and the texture of folklore, in a visual grammar capable of desinging simplicity and density. Communicating in an innovative way a territory that is now being renewed, anchored in its strong identity.
Chromatically, the greens of the new brand refer to the natural and agricultural heritage of the Municipality (olives and olive oil, the parks and nature reserves, the garden city) and the orange and brown, warm tones, to the temperature and character of the "Terra Quente Transmontana", in which Mirandela occupies a central position.
