The Government of Portugal is communicating increasingly online.
In order to adapt to today’s digital world, the XXIII Government decided to update its visual identity.
The design synthesised key national symbols in a way better suited to online platforms. The logo seeks inspiration from elements of the national flag, making a deliberate effort not to confuse or interfere with its status, dignity and symbolism. It was simplified into an abstract form, in order to represent the Government. Developed in the first half of 2023, the new brand was designed to be more dynamic and functional in a digital environment, integrating the required graphic elements to be applied at any scale and on any medium. The visual system was designed to perform as an effective communication tool to be cohesively deployed in 2D and 3D, in a multitude of ways. Another key element of the project was the creation of a font exclusive to the Portuguese Republic, ‘Portuguesa’, designed by Dino dos Santos, comprising serif and sans serif versions.
